Neglecting one’s blog

Filed under: Life — Nabiha Meher @ 6:43 pm

Neglecting one’s bog is a cardinal sin in my book. Why have one in the first place if you’re not going to update it on a regular basis? You may as well delete the damn thing.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what I do. I’m a sporadic writer- one who writes when inspiration seizes her. I don’t write on a regular basis, even though I know I should. I don’t bother writing until and unless I feel obligated to. So, does that make me a bad blogger? That’s a question I often ask when I’m chastising myself for being lazy.

When I check my blog stats, I am often left confused about who all have visited my blog. I get a lot of traffic because I have an article on hijras up, and whoever searches for hijras will eventually stumble along my blog, if they’re searching with a vengeance that is. It takes a while to get to the third or fourth page I am relegated to, but it all depends on what you google. Google “hijras buried” or “hijras buried guru” and I’m on the first page. What makes me really happy is that people want to learn about the hijra culture and community. In a place like Lahore, where hijras are looked down upon, I think it’s important to raise awareness about the plight of the hijras and do some consciousness raising. They are, after all, one of the most marginalized people in our society.

Another post that gets traffic is the one on Hob Nob Defence. For some reason, people want to know about Hob Nob Lahore. Some of the funniest searches lead people to this article, such as “slaughter pluck chicken”.

Of course, there are also some disturbing searches like “my father rape me” which lead the googler to my “Rape Me Musharraf” entry. It horrified me to think that perhaps it was a distressed little girl trying to figure out what to do next. It’s been a while since I took notice of it, but it still sends shivers down my spine every time I think about it.

Anyway, I know I digress. The fact is that it’s very easy to take a few minutes out of one’s days, but it’s easier to procrastinate and waste time on facebook. Inspiration does not seize me everyday. Sometimes I feel I just cannot write, and when I do, I end up posting nonsense such as this. I’m sorry for taking up your time- I was feeling obligated. Hopefully next time I’ll have something of substance to say.

Postscript: I wrote this post almost a week before posting it. I am indeed too indolent sometimes.
